Residence renovation extension, Kaimakli
2024 Nicosia, Cyprus
The renovation of this residence in Nicosia, Cyprus, aimed to preserve and enhance the property’s rich traditional architectural elements, while introducing modern comforts and functionality. Central to the design concept was the preservation of the internal arch, an iconic feature of Cypriot architecture, as well as the enhancement of the prominent central entrance, which forms the heart of the residence’s façade.
As part of the renovation, a thoughtfully designed extension was added to enhance views from the main living spaces toward the internal yard, strengthening the connection between indoor and outdoor areas.
The extension features large floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows, allowing natural light to flood the interiors and providing uninterrupted views of the courtyard, creating a seamless blend of spaces. The traditional stone walls, but with a contemporary approach, echo the home’s traditional architecture, while sleek, minimalist detailing offers a modern twist.
A flat roof contrasts with the original pitched roof, emphasizing the contemporary design while complementing the existing structure.
The result is a harmonious integration of old and new, where traditional Cypriot elements coexist with modern design, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the home.
