N&F Residence

2019 - Nicosia, Aglantzia, Cyprus

200m2

The house is located on a slightly sloped terrain with a view towards the University of Nicosia. The main concept of the project was to create a central double height living space, with large openings towards the garden and views on the city skyline. Open plan spaces and circulations around the double void allow visual connectivity between the main living spaces, giving to the family the sense of being connected while doing the various individual tasks of the day.

At the ground floor an additional room attached to the living room can be completely opened and in continuity to the living area, to be used either as a playroom, an extension to the living area for big social gatherings.Or closed, allowing an autonomous unit for guests and various other activities.

At the 1st floor, there are 2 distinctives separated units for the parents and children respectively, allowing complete independence and privacy between them and the rest of the house. The open circulations around the void become living spaces with a study, and small library with views on the fireplace and the garden.

The owners requested minimal and essential aesthetics which reflects their zen and organized philosophy of life focusing on the essential values of family. The sculpted double height wall with the fire place, becomes a central, organizing, and ornamental living element of the house.

Simple environmental considerations are integrated into the design, allowing thermal comfort. Provision is made for external shading systems on the openings, especially on those oriented towards the garden, while the higher windows can open in the summer to allow the evacuation of hot air. Cross ventilation is also allowed in all rooms, and photovoltaic panels are discreetly integrated into the roof.
